Get support
As a member of the Global Council, you have access to our comprehensive and free support offer. From expert technical assistance on litigation, to tailored and timely training, we aim to enhance your litigation and advocacy efforts to advance refugee and migrant rights across the world.

Litigation support
We provide direct technical assistance on high-impact cases. To date, our support has positively impacted the lives of hundreds of thousands of refugees and migrants and set key precedents on issues such as non-refoulement and access to nationality.
This support is available for members working on litigation in national, regional, and global forums to protect refugees and migrants’ rights. In response to member requests, our in-house expert regional litigators and pool of legal experts, including refugee leaders, can provide legal assistance including: case strategy development, drafting legal arguments, legal research, evidence gathering, sourcing expert reports and more.
In addition to legal support, member-initiated technical assistance may also include coalition-building; connection with specialized experts; advice on integrating legal interventions into broader advocacy strategies and creation of resources.
As well as providing assistance in response to specific member requests, our overarching strategy is to drive systemic change that protects refugees and migrants across borders. We do this through coordinating multi-country strategies to bring ‘the right cases in the right places’ to create tipping points that shift regional and global practices. Our regional litigators are core to this. They are uniquely placed to consult with members to identify patterns of rights violations and to develop a coordinated regional approach to disrupt these patterns.

Advocacy support
At the Council, we recognize that upholding the rule of law is just one important tool to advance change. In addition to supporting legal cases, we also provide expert support on advocacy and campaign strategies to build inclusive societies and global immigration systems.
We believe that everyone deserves the right to rebuild their lives after fleeing war, persecution or danger. Human dignity and compassion are core principles that should underpin all domestic and international systems.
The Council therefore supports its members with specific campaign and advocacy work that brings the importance of these principles to the forefront of those in decision-making spaces. Our goal is to improve policies and legislation that protects and advances the rights of displaced communities.

Capacity building training and workshops
Members from anywhere in the world can request capacity-building training and strategic workshops to support all stages of their high-impact litigation or advocacy work. We also regularly convene webinars and knowledge-sharing events to help our members prepare for emerging challenges such as the growing number of people displaced by climate events.

Amicus Interventions
In addition to our direct support offer, the Global Council regularly intervenes as amicus on international matters in courts across the world. This is part of our broader work to encourage the progressive development of international law in relation to displacement; and ensure refugees and migrants can rebuild their lives with safety and dignity. To date, we have intervened on key issues of international law in courts including the Supreme Court of Mexico, Constitutional Court of Colombia, High Court of Kenya, Appeals Court of South Africa, Inter-American Court of Human Rights and many more. Our interventions focus on a wide range of topics including the principle of non-refoulement, the rights of climate-displaced communities, arbitrary and unlawful detention, pushbacks, deprivation of citizenship and more.
